Dzongchen Frequently Asked Questions
I'm new to Buddhism. Is it okay for me to come?
Of course! The teaching topic is very profound. If you find yourself drawn to it, by all means attend!
I want to take Refuge. What do I need to do?
Just let Matt know well before the ceremony starts: mwillis70@gmail.com or (269) 275-0090.
Can I attend the Medicine Buddha Empowerment without taking the Refuge Vow?
No problem! Lama allows anyone to attend the empowerment. You can think of it as a blessing!
Can I have an interview with Lama?
Yes! If you can make it Saturday morning before lunch, that would be a good time. Otherwise, we'll try to schedule other interview times during the weekend. Just contact Matt in advance to arrange your interview.
What are my parking options for getting to and from the event?
Sanctuary Yoga has a free parking lot.
What can I bring into the event?
Bring your meditation cushion if you want to sit on the floor. The yoga studio does have chairs if you want use one.
Also, many people like to offer a monetary gift at the end of the program to Lama Tashi Togyal (and also to his translator, if you want). Any amount is good. T here will be envelopes available.
Are meals provided?
Meals will not be provided. Usually, participants group together and travel to a restaurant during the breaks between teaching sessions.
Do I have to attend all the sessions?
It is encouraged, but not obligatory. However, the Sunday afternoon session with the Refuge Vow Ceremony and Medicine Buddha Empowerment is separate from the Dzogchen Teachings. So you would still have the complete instruction if you did not attend that Sunday afternoon.
I don't have quite enough money to cover the weekend. Can I still come?
We expect a full house and first have to honor the participants who paid the full amount. However if money is tight, let us know. Keep in mind that the organizers have to cover the costs of both the lamas' airline tickets, food, lodging (a rented house), contribution to the yoga studio, plus other costs. All proceeds over the costs are gifted to the lamas.
How can I contact the organizer with any questions?
Contact Matt at mwillis70@gmail.com or (269) 275-0090.
